The Wolf of Wall These cookies are strictly necessary to enable you to move around the site .In the last year the 20th Century Literary Classics research seminar at the University of Reading has been busy collecting reviews of, books in, and about the 20th century. From the initial Books in, written by Andy Croft and Stuart Kelly, to the current series of volumes devoted to books about the 20th century, they have been hard at work. If you want to know anything about the books, and especially the people who wrote them, then get your copy of the Winter 2017 Teaching the Classics Series: In the previous instalment for this series we considered the status of classic and the choice to speak of other eras as 'great'. In this, the final instalment of the series, Stuart Kelly looks at how the term was being used in the 20th century. I assume (indeed hope) that everyone by now has received our wonderful postcards about the blogs postgraduate teaching assistants can read. However, this is not just for teaching assistants - is it? Of course there are plenty of blogs about teaching classical literature and other disciplines, but to become accessible to a wider readership as well as to our fellow bloggers, the postcards were designed. In our case the ideas came from the University of Reading's Department of Classical Studies. I was invited to give a talk about my experiences of teaching in a variety of disciplines and in a variety of colleges at the University of Reading. The talk was organised for the AHRC Doctoral Course in the 21st Century, organised by Professor Marion Furst, for which I was asked to give the first lecture as part of a panel of 3 participants. This talk was then given in front of a combined audience of students, researchers, academics, and members of staff. The questions were engaging and the lively audience very interesting. After the lecture came a panel discussion featuring some of the students who attended and some of the lecturers. I found out later that one of the students was researching and one of the lecturers was writing a book on college teaching in the 21st century. Though I was briefly interviewed for the BBC iPlayer feature, Click, which followed the AHRC Doctoral Programme in the 21st Century, I don't think any segments have been uploaded yet, despite many recommendations, and the lectures have not been made available to the public. The focus seems to have been on the main institutions and the main researchers. However, we d0c515b9f4
